THE HOT-BELLY DIET

In my last radio show ( see a blog here about it with links to the pod-casts) I reviewed the book "The Hot Belly Diet" by Suhas G Kshirsaga.

The hot belly diet is a 30 day protocol, explaining what to eat and when to reset your digestive system according to Ayurveda, an ancient medicine system from India.

I wanted to share the recipes from the book, as I ran out of time in the Radio studio and promised the listeners the recipes.


Khichadi - this simple dish is "...at the heart of this diet - a complete but incredibly easy-to-make meal that helps clear out that digestive sludge and transform your metabolism." (hot belly diet p19).


Serve 1

1/4 cup basmati rice or buckwheat (use organic) . 1 cup finely chopped cleansing vegetables

1/2 cup split mung beans (use organic) (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, celery, garlic..)

2 1/2 cups water 1 tablespoon of seeds of your choice( pumpkin ,

2 teaspoons olive oil sunflower seeds)

1 1/2 teaspoon curry powder 3 to 4 stems and leaves of cilantro finely chopped

Salt

Rinse the rice and beans. In a medium pot, combine the water, beans, and rice and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low boil and continue cooking for 20 - 30 minutes. Add the oil, curry powder, and salt while cooking. Stir well in between.

At the end add the cilantro, vegetables, seeds and nuts. Stir well and serve hot.
